627,334. Pneumatic conveyers. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920), Ltd., and PILKINGTON, N. Feb. 22, 1947, No. 5235. [Class 78 (i)] Pneumatic conveyer for cotton fibre includes feeding hopper A of a junction structure B, the hopper being divided by partition C into two longitudinal compartments BDF and EG lying side by side (perpendicular to the plane of the paper) and is characterised in that each compartment is connected at one end to the atmosphere and at the other end to a suction pipe leading to a lap-forming junction such that the two flows of cotton are in opposite directions (in the plane perpendicular to the paper). As shown, cotton falls into hopper A, passes through junction B into one or both of compartments D and E, and passes out through pipes F and G in parallel but opposite directions each to a lap-forming machine. Accumulation of cotton in the latter machine operates control plates, which operate the solenoids J and H and thus open or close doors L or K. Thus, when there is too much cotton in the lap-forming machine of pipe G the door L swings over to cause the cotton which is flowing through both pipes to pass solely into pipe F. |
