The present invention relates to an apparatus to control power of a secondary battery, capable of protecting the secondary battery from overheating without a separate cooling device. The apparatus comprises: a sensing unit measuring the temperature of a battery cell, an external temperature outside the battery cell and a load current; an adjusting unit adjusting the power supplied to a load from the battery cell; and a control unit predicting future temperature changes of the battery cell based on the temperature of the battery cell, the external temperature outside the battery cell and the load current measured by the sensing unit, analyzing the predicted future temperature change of the battery cell, and controlling the adjusting unit to decrease the power supplied to the load from the battery cell when it is predicted that the temperature of the battery cell will be increased over a limit temperature within a predetermined reference time, by analyzing the predicted future temperature change of the battery cell. |
