[Class 78 (i)] A carrier for a pneumatic transmission comprises two cylindrical shells 5, 6 having respectively end plates 7, 8, one shell fitting within the other with end plates in sliding contact and each shell having a longitudinal opening 9 for the introduction of a package to be carried, the shells being pivoted eccentrically together so that on relative rotation the shells describe an eccentric path to bring the openings therein into or out of register. As shown, felt buffer 18<SP>1</SP> is secured to the left end plate 7 of outer shell 5, the shell carrying an eccentric pivot 10 about which inner shell 6 rotates. The inner shell 6 on the right is secured to a circular bearing disc 11 upon which outer shell 5 rotates and to plate 12 to which felt buffer 1811 is secured. Relative rotation of the buffers causes relative eccentric rotation of the shells so that the two longitudinal slots 9, one in each shell, move relatively and the carrier thus opens or closes. A spring 14 secured to plate 12 carries pin 13 which projects through hole 15 in plate 12 and, when the carrier is in the closed position, engages with a slot 16 in right end plate 7 of outer shell 5 and locks the carrier in this position. The abutting ends of the shell may meet in a butt joint or may seat one beneath the other. |
