An identification and checking assistance apparatus according to the invention, particularly for identifying vehicle components and for assisting a motor vehicle checking procedure, comprises: an image signal reception unit (6) that is designed to receive an image signal from at least one image signal source, wherein the image signal contains image data from at least one vehicle component; an image processing unit (10) that is designed to ascertain the nature of the vehicle component from the image data of an image signal received by the image signal reception unit (6); a memory unit that stores data records that comprise, for a multiplicity of motor vehicle types, data records that contain, for a multiplicity of vehicle components, respectively relevant component information, such as criteria to be observed by the respective vehicle component, possible weaknesses of the respective vehicle component, or checking steps to be performed for the vehicle component; and an identification and data processing unit (2) that is designed to associate the image data of the image signal received by the image signal reception unit (6) with the respectively associated data record in the memory unit; wherein the identification and data processing unit (2) is additionally designed to check the image data of the image signal received by the image signal reception unit (6) for observance of the criteria stored in the associated data record and to transmit the result of this check and/or the possible weaknesses of the respective vehicle component that are contained in the associated data record and/or the checking steps to be performed for the respective vehicle component that are contained in the associated data record to a display unit. |
