1. A method for delivering a sedation drug comprising the steps of:
providing at least one device for infusing a sedation drug and for measuring a patient's index of depth of anesthesia; initially administering a sedation drug to a patient in an open loop mode while requesting the patient to respond to an instruction; monitoring a patient's index of depth of anesthesia; bringing the patient to a level of anesthesia where the patient fails to respond to the request within a predetermined response time; determining an index of depth of anesthesia value that coincides with the level of anesthesia where the patient fails to respond; and adjusting the administration of the sedation drug to the patient to a closed loop mode.
