Abstract The present invention is directed to a method for presenting media assets on a user equipment device. The method includes receiving a user request for a media asset. The method determines if the requested media asset is available in at least one alternate version from a first source, wherein the alternate version is not the requested version. The method also determines whether the user equipment device supports the first source. If the requested media asset is available in at least one alternate version from a first source supported by the user equipment device, the method presents the at least one alternate version in response to determining that the requested media asset is available in at least one alternate version from a first source supported by the user equipment device. If the requested media asset is not available in at least one alternate version from a first source supported by the user equipment device, the method presents the requested media asset in response to determining that the requested media asset is not available in at least one alternate version from a first source supported by the user equipment device.
