629,869. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 23, 1947, No. 34065. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1946. Drawings to Specification. [Class 37] A rectifier element has a plurality of layers of selenium applied to a single base plate, superimposed upon one another, each layer being partially oxidized before the application of the next layer. The selenium layers are applied in the vitreous form and are converted to the crystalline form in the presence of air, thus effecting partial oxidization, and imparting a certain rectifying capability to each layer. Four layers are preferred, the final selenium layer being given a more rapid heat treatment, and a blocking layer, applied chemically. followed by the application of a counter electrode and " forming " in known manner. It is stated that a rectifier element of this type is capable of rectifying higher voltages without 'breakdown, of the order of three times the normal working voltage. Specifications 554,822 and 608,216 are referred to.
|
