Disclosed are an image processing apparatus, method, and recording medium for processing images. According to the present invention, the image processing method of the image processing apparatus includes the steps of: sequentially storing a non-shadow ray and one or more shadow rays derived from the non-shadow ray to a memory; and performing a shading operation by using the non-shadow ray and the shadow rays sequentially stored in the memory. Accordingly, the image processing apparatus can perform shading computations more effectively than other image processing apparatus using a ray tracing method.
