The system comprises a medical or surgical line 5 for connection to a patient, and receptacle 103 (possibly expandable), suitable for receiving fluid 60 from the line. An indicator 105 (which may be color changing and comprise a dye and/or glucose oxidase or peroxidase) is arranged to contact the fluid, possibly via capillary action or diffusion, and indicate whether the fluid comprises glucose. The indication may from symbols or writing. A gas release path 110 may comprise a membrane which blocks in contact with liquid, and/or a negative pressure region may allow the fluid to be displaced into the receptacle. One-way valve 115 may be present. Also disclosed are a giving set having a safety warning system and a monitor with control unit determining a parameter of the patient and providing a glucose alert. The system may warn clinicians a glucose containing solution is being used, preventing patient harm. |
