A lifting assembly comprising a telescopic post 10 formed from three coaxial tubes 12, 14 and 16 which can slide relative to each other, an actuator 22 to move a second tube 14 relative to a first 12 and a pulley mechanism comprising first and second wheels mounted on first and second ends of the second tube 14, and first and second cables extending between the first 12 and a third 16 tube with one engaging each of the first and second wheels wherein the pulley is arranged such that the third tube 16 moves at a greater speed relative to the first 12 than the second 14. Tensioning means may be provided on the wires and the pulley mechanism may be partially mounted within the tubes. The device is designed to elevate a bed with the third tube 16 used to lift an end of a mattress support 6. |
