[Class 56] Hollow glass articles are tempered by being first slowly heated until all parts are at a uniform temperature and then subjected to air or other gaseous fluid jets blown against the whole inner and outer surfaces, the number and size of the jets, the distance of the jets from the glass surfaces and the pressure of the jets being so chosen that the inner surface of the article is tempered more rapidly than the outer surface.
