[Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A roller cover or cot for drafting or spinning machinery comprises a neutral axis section 15, Fig. 3, of rubber reinforced by elements containing glass fibres, a compression section 14 of soft cushioning rubber and a tension section 16 of harder resilient rubber, the three sections being integrally united by vulcanizing. The rubber may be natural or synthetic, and the elements containing glass fibres may be two parallel layers of glass cords 17, or a cable 21, Fig. 4, formed of a plurality of cords 22 each built up of short glass staples. The cords forming the cable may be coated with rubber or resin. The glass fibre elements may comprise a number of parallel independent glass fibres 26, Fig. 6, of different lengths calendered into the rubber, or a number of glass fibres matted into a blanket. The reinforcing elements may also incorporate textile cords or fibres or plastic materials in combination with the glass fibres. The cover may be stretched on to a roller, or may be cemented in place. Specification 482,774 is referred to. |
