A heating system control method includes: obtaining an output modulation instruction specifying an output modulation period (S101); determining whether switching a heat pump to a defrost mode is required (S102); and causing the heat pump to switch to the defrost mode when switching the defrost mode is determined to be required (S103). In the determining, when a first defrost condition is satisfied before the output modulation instruction is obtained, it is determined to switch the mode of operation to the defrost mode, and when a second defrost condition more easily satisfied than the first defrost condition is satisfied in a given period occurring within a period starting when the output modulation instruction is obtained and ending at a start time of the output modulation period, it is determined to switch the mode of operation to the defrost mode. |
