The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling a driving mode for a plug-in hybrid vehicle and a control method thereof, which can perform driving of a vehicle having high efficiency in accordance with a driving path of a plug-in hybrid vehicle, by calculating all electric range (AER) which can be driven with an electric driving mode in accordance with a charging amount of a high voltage battery of the plug-in hybrid vehicle, setting a driving path by reflecting a driving condition up to a target place, setting a driving mode in each section of the driving path, setting a path to require high load and high speed driving as a second driving mode, and setting a path to require low load and low speed driving as a first driving mode. |
