PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus improving an evaluation accuracy of a degree of deterioration of a lubricant such as a lubricating oil and grease and evaluating the degree of deterioration of the lubricant small in size and easy to carry and a method for evaluating the degree of deterioration.SOLUTION: An apparatus 1 for evaluating a degree of deterioration allows an infrared ray emitted from a light-emitting element 6 to enter inside an ATR crystal 7 and pass therefrom in a totally damped reflective manner, and includes: a detection part 2 for detecting the infrared ray by a light-receiving element 8; and an evaluation part 3 for evaluating a degree of deterioration of a lubricant on the basis of detected infrared ray intensity. The detection part can be inserted with a first filter 9a which makes a bandwidth having a fluctuation correlating to the degree of deterioration of the lubricant path through and a second filter 9b which makes the bandwidth having a small fluctuation correlating to the degree of deterioration of the lubricant pass through. The estimation part evaluates the degree of deterioration of the lubricant by correcting the first detection intensity when the first filter is inserted based on the second detection intensity when the second filter is inserted. |
