PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element featuring low drive voltage and high element transmissivity and a luminaire.SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element 1A includes a substantially transparent cathode electrode 8 and a luminescent layer 6. The cathode electrode 8 consists of a laminate composed of, from the side near the luminescent layer 6, an electrode layer 81 containing an alloy of alkaline metal and silver or an alloy of alkaline earth metal and silver and a metal protective layer 82. The metal protective layer 82 contains a metal element whose standard enthalpy of formation when it forms an oxide is larger on the negative side than the standard enthalpy of formation when the alkaline metal or the alkaline earth metal forms an oxide. Also, a luminaire 10 includes the organic electroluminescent element 1. |
