<PICT:0633944/III/1> Control of an ion-exchanger employed in the treatment of water a saline solution is effected by mixing the treated liquid with a suitable reagent adapted to bring the pH value of the liquid to the limits of greatest sensitivity and determining the pH value of the mixture in apparatus comprising a mixing vessel M into which the treated liquid and reagent are discharged via siphons S1, S2 from vessels D, D1 and a tank C into which the mixture is discharged intermittently through a siphon S3 and in which the pH value of the mixture is determined by, e.g. colorimetric or ionometric methods, the vessel M being suspended by a cable CP and counterbalanced by a weight p such that when the weight of vessel M exceeds that of weight p, the vessel descends and the stopper B in siphon S3 is seated in an opening B1 in tank C, the siphon S3 being primed by, for example, a suction pump, applied to tank C at P. If colorimetric methods are employed, an indicator is added to vessel D1. The cable CP may be adapted to drive a device T, recording the number of movements of the vessel M and controlling circuits initiating the action of the pH measuring device. |
