PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a syndrome-based decoding device that implements a low load of a decoding process and fast convergence of an iterative process.SOLUTION: The decoding device comprises: (1) check matrix transformation means for forming a transform check matrix obtained by applying such a matrix transformation as reducing a row weight to a partial sum check matrix resulting from partial addition of rows of a check matrix corresponding to a partial sum syndrome resulting from partial addition of initial syndrome bits, and a transformation compensation matrix for compensating beforehand for an effect of the matrix transformation from the partial sum check matrix to the transform check matrix; (2) conversion syndrome forming means for applying the transformation compensation matrix to convert the partial sum syndrome to a conversion syndrome corresponding to the transform check matrix; and (3) decoding means for correcting errors in information bits with the use of the transform check matrix and the conversion syndrome. |
