Disclosed is a lighting apparatus using a PN junction light emitting device having a first connection unit and a second connection unit receiving electric power of different polarities from a power supply unit, capable of enhancing safety, comprising: a light emitting unit having at least one PN junction light emitting device and electrically connected to the first connection unit and the second connection unit; an overvoltage preventing device electrically disconnected at an operating voltage of the light emitting unit and electrically connected when the light emitting unit is open and an overvoltage equal to or higher than the operating voltage of the light emitting unit is applied from the power supply device; and a line separating device connected to the light emitting unit and the overvoltage preventing device, and electrically separated from the light emitting unit as overvoltage preventing device is electrically connected to allow current to flow, thus preventing an increase in voltage of the power supply device.
