A security device 10 for a sliding window or a patio door with at least two panels 11, 12 slidable relative to each other and when in their closed position having overlapping vertically extending frame members 11a, 12a, a first set of locking components 14 mounted on a first panel 11a and a second set of locking components 15 mounted on a second panel l2a, the sets of components having locking formations 17, 20 which engage each other when in the closed position to prevent movement of the panels 11, 12 perpendicular to the panes of the panels. A handle 22 operated locking means 21, 23 mounted on one panel 12 for engaging the locking components 18 on the other panel 11 to prevent movement of the panels parallel to the planes of the panels. The handle can be mounted at a vertical mid-point on the frame member so that the handle can be operated by a person seated in a wheelchair. Also claimed is a multi-point locking system for a sliding wing arrangement. |
