665,606. Glass &c. fibres. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. Dec. 31, 1947 [June 3, 1946], No. 35344/47. Class 56 [Also in Group IX] Mineral fibres, such as glass, are formed into tubular or solid slivers by progressively reducing the diameter of a cylindrical web. The web is preferably formed by causing glass to flow from a feed hopper 1 into a centrifugal member 3, as described in Specification 611,623. Rotation of the member 3 causes the glass to pass through orifices 4 in filamentary form, whereupon they are acted upon by jets of hot air, as described in Specification 610,845. The slivers may be used for wicks and pads and when in tubular form and impregnated with a suitable binder may be used for insulating elements for piping. |
