The housing has a ventilation opening (6) for aerating and/or de-aerating the housing. A thermal activatable sealant is provided for sealing the housing in the case of fire. A sensor such as temperature sensor, delivering a measuring signal is provided for detecting a measuring value. A control unit (13) activates an electrical activatable sealing unit for sealing the ventilation opening and/or isolating a ventilator (7), when the measuring value exceeds or falls below a certain level. The sensor measures a concentration of gas or a combination of gases or particles, in an air. An independent claim is also included for a method for protecting an electrical device in a housing in the case of fire.
