A traffic-directing sign (see Group X) comprises a layer containing a white or near-white synthetic resin, which may be a polyterpene, alkyd, polystyrene, chlorinated diphenyl, polymerized cyclohexanone, acrylic or vinyl resin, a phenol-formaldehyde resin, a resin formed from maleic anhydride and rosin as such or esterified with a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerine, or an ester resin prepared from rosin, modified rosin or natural copal, and a mineral filler, preferably titanium dioxide, either alone or mixed with white silica sand or carbonate of lime, the proportion of resin being preferably 20-30 per cent by weight of the material. A small proportion of polyisobutylene or other synthetic rubber may be incorporated and the composition may include mica, finely-divided glass, aluminium powder or asbestos.
