636,765. Gas burners. UDYLITE CORPORATION. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21534. Convention date, April 16, 1943. [Class 75 (i)] A torch for producing a hot gaseous blast particularly for welding plastic materials comprises a combustion chamber 1, Fig. 2, provided with an inlet nozzle 14 for combustible gas or a mixture of combustible and combustion supporting gas, and a cooling jacket through which combustion supporting gas or an inert diluent gas flows counter-current to the products of combustion before entering the combustion chamber. The cooling jacket is formed by a pair of co-axial tubes 2, 8 surrounding the combustion chamber 1, and the cooling gas is passed through an inlet 11 to flow through the annular passages 10, 3 to enter the combustion chamber 1 through orifices 21 behind the discharge end of the nozzle 14. The products of combustion to be applied to the material to be heated are exhausted through an outlet 22 of flattened cross section. In an alternative construction the torch includes a mixing chamber for combustible and combustion supporting gases comprising a perforated tube 40, Fig. 7, supplied with combustible gas through an inlet 42 and surrounded by a shell 39 to which combustion supporting gas is supplied through an inlet 43.
|
