[Class 140] A wiping die for coated ribbon wire comprises two inclined side-plates enclosing a V-shaped space provided with extensions to form a parallel walled wiping gap at the narrower end of the V-shaped space, and is floatingly-supported in the coating apparatus. Wires 3, Fig. 2, from the coating bath pass through the inclined plates 15, 16 and the parallel extensions 17, 18 of die 6 and on through an oven. The plates 15, 16 are secured to end-plates 19, 20, the upper portions of which are provided with shaft stubs 25 attached to the inner race of a ball-bearing 26, the outer race of which engages a track formed by U-shaped bracket 7 having parallel lower and upper horizontal legs and secured to the oven wall. A plate 28 prevents the die turning about the axis of the wire. A die permitting various thicknesses of coating, Fig. 3, comprises supporting-plates 29, 30 provided with pairs of wiping fingers 33. The width of gap 39 is varied by moving the fingers in slots 40, fine adjustment being provided by screws 41.
