637,160. Road lighting systems. HYDRAN PRODUCTS, Ltd., and MOTLEY, L. March 25, 1946, No. 9136. [Class 75 (iv)] Illumination of a traffic way is effected by a row of lamps mounted on a low wall 6 running longitudinally of the traffic way and directing their light at a level below the eyes of drivers wholly downwardly and across the traffic way, the wall having its side faces inclined so that the wheels of a skidding vehicle will contact the base of the wall before the vehicle body can contact the wall. The lighting is effected by tubular lamps 7 housed in cut-away portions at the top of the wall and enclosed by cover reflectors 11 the edges and ends of which extend downwardly to prevent any light being emitted upwardly while the top of the cut-away portion of the wall is itself shaped at 13 to such an angle that no upward reflection occurs. Transparent side closures 14 are fitted. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement for a road with two distinct carriage ways, a midway longitudinal wall with lamps being provided, there being also cycle and pedestrian ways 2, 3 illuminated from low walls with lamps disposed longitudinally between the cycle and carriage way. Specification 637,170, [Group X], is referred to. |
