Device 3 measures the rotational position of rotating feature 4, employing rotary to linear magnification. Connecting member 8, operatively connected to rotating feature 4, extends through structural layer(s) 10 of enclosure 5, which contains a harmful environment. Arm 14 is operatively connected to connecting member 8 and located outside enclosure 5, maybe in housing 9. Connecting member 8 may be defined by rotational axis P; arm 14 may be perpendicular to this axis. Cable 15 connects arm 14, at attachment point 16, to target 18. One or more pulleys 17 control the path of cable 15 between attachment point 16 and target 18. Position sensor 19 measures the linear position of target 18. Processor 27 (Fig. 5) may calculate a rotational position from a signal received from sensor 19, which may be used to reposition the rotating feature. Advantageously, device 3 accurately measures the pitch angle of a stator vane of a turbofan engine. |
