EXPANSION JOINT SYSTEM

A cover plate system for a gap between two structural members is provided. The system includes an elongated cover that extends across the gap from a first structural member to a second, spaced-apart structural member. The cover plate system further includes damped spring anchors for engaging the cover plate to an underlying structural member and dampers for absorbing energy imparted to the cover plate by vehicular traffic. The cover plate system minimizes the strain energy that is absorbed by the cover plate, which results in less cover plate slapping and bouncing during operation.
