USE OF SILICON-CONTAINING PARTICLES FOR PROTECTION FROM UV RADIATION, PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF AND FORMULATIONS COMPRISING THEM

The present invention relates to a use of silicon-containing particles for protecting human cells against electromagnetic radiation in the UV range and optionally in the visible light to the IR-range, wherein the particles are preferably clusters of primary particles having a particle size in the range of 5 to 100 nm. The wavelength range absorbing the absorption of the electromagnetic radiation by a limited method depending on the particle size can be matched. The silicon-containing particles can be used as formulations for cosmetics or medicine, and preferably as a biocompatible and biodegradable UV blocker in a sunscreen or in a cosmetic formulation for UV protection in hair.
