A solenoid assembly (10) for providing control over fluid pressure distribution in a transmission, where the solenoid assembly (10) includes a solenoid portion (12) and a valve portion (14), and the movement of the valve portion (14) is controlled by the solenoid portion (12). There is a valve (72) which is part of the valve portion (14), and the valve (72) controls the distribution of fluid between a supply port (60), a control port (58), and an exhaust port (54). The distribution of fluid between the ports (54, 58, 60) may include providing a pressure balance between the supply port (60) and the control port (58), and allowing any excess fluid to pass through the exhaust port (54), or controlling the flow of fluid between the supply port (60) and the control port (58), with any excess fluid exiting the exhaust port (54). |
