<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of suppressing a foreign object from being nipped even when the vacuum cleaner is operated with the closed lid with the foreign object inserted between a body case of a vacuum cleaner body and a rim of the lid at a turning fulcrum point side. <P>SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes a cleaner body 1, a duct collection part and temporarily stopping units (15, 32). The vacuum cleaner body 1 has the lid 21, and the lid is vertically turnably pivoted to the body case 5 by forming a gap G between the rim 22a at a pivot part side and the body case 5 so that the lid is arranged at a full open position. The dust collection part detachable from the cleaner body 1 is supported on the cleaner body 1 to be covered from the upper side with the lid 21 arranged at the full open position. When the lid 21 is rotated downward from the full open position, and reaches a predetermined middle aperture position, the lid 21 is temporarily held at the middle aperture position by the temporarily stopping units (15, 32).
