<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display uniformity in a vertical alignment liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate; a second substrate; a first electrode and a first vertical alignment film provided on the first substrate; a second electrode and a second vertical alignment film provided on the second substrate; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; and a sealing material which surrounds the liquid crystal layer and is provided between the first substrate and the second substrate. In a region where the first substrate and the second substrate overlap each other, an effective display region including a portion where the first electrode and the second electrode overlap each other, and an outer peripheral region including the region overlapping with the sealing material, and a region with a width of at least 1 mm or more from the end of the sealing material toward the effective display region are provided. At least one of the first and second vertical alignment films develops a relatively higher pretilt angle in a site in contact with the liquid crystal layer in the outer peripheral region than that in a site in contact with the liquid crystal layer in the effective display region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
