A tension control apparatus for a wire rod comprises: a laser speed meter which measures the speed of the top and middle parts of a wire rod; a tension calculating part which calculates tension on the basis of the speed of the top and middle parts of the wire rod; and a tension control part which controls the tension of the wire rod to allow the tension to be within a certain range, thereby reducing cobbles and dimension errors.
