A method for deciding a mode for encoding signals, includes a step of deciding one of encoding methods including a frequency domain encoding mode and a time domain encoding mode, as an encoding mode for the present frame, a step of deciding whether a decided encoding method is changed with regard to the present frame, based on signal characteristic obtained from frames including at least the present frame, and a step of changing the decided encoding mode with the present frame to another encoding mode, when the decided encoding mode with regard to the present frame is decided to be changed. So, the signals can be efficiently encoded. |
