[Class 138(i)] [Also in Group VIII] In a dishwashing or clothes washing machine a horizontally mounted impeller in the lower part of a container for washing liquid circulates liquid past an open drain the side walls of which extend substantially backwards relative to the direction of circulation of the liquid, so that escape of liquid through the drain is prevented as long as the liquid is circulated. The dish-washing machine comprises a receptacle 1, to receive a dish basket 4, and a lower tank 2 in which is mounted a rotatable impeller 7. Washing liquid is supplied through a pipe 8 controlled by a valve 9. The liquid is prevented from escaping through a drain 10, Fig. 3, as long as the impeller 7 is rotating. Liquid circulating in the direction of the arrow B is thrown from the impeller to meet a part 11 of the tank in a direction which forms an angle greater than 90 degrees with the wall. Powerful jets of liquid are thrown upwardly on to the dishes by the impeller. |
