Primary aromatic amine-aldehyde resins for use as anion-exchangers are modified by wholly or partially reacting the amino-groups of the amines, before or after the condensation with aldehyde, with a substance containing a cyano-group linked to a nitrogen atom, e.g. cyanamide or dicyandiamide. In examples: (1) the non-methylated resin of example (1) of the parent Specification is reacted with dicyandiamide; (2) m-aminobiguanidylbenzene hydrochloride (prepared by heating m-phenylenediamine hydrochloride with dicyandiamide) is mixed with m-phenylenediamine and reacted with formaldehyde. Data are given to show the effect of the resins of example (1) for sulphuric acid absorption and for dechlorination of water.ALSO:Primary aromatic amine-aldehyde resins for use as anion-exchangers are modified by wholly or partially reacting the amino groups of the amines, before or after the condensation with aldehyde, with a substance containing a cyano-group linked to a nitrogen atom, e.g. cyanamide or dicyandiamide.
