[Class 53] An accumulator plate is made with an adhering diaphragm of glass, silica, quartz or other mineral threads bonded together with porous rubber. A further layer of porous rubber may be deposited on the diaphragm to act as a separator for spacing adjacent electrodes. The diaphragm may be made by first covering the plate with the threads and then dipping in latex or pouring latex over the threads. In the latter method the plate covered with threads is placed in a mould. The latex is then coagulated and converted into porous rubber. Only those parts of the plate carrying active material need be provided with the diaphragm. In another method the rubber is deposited electrolytically. Fig. 4 shows a construction of plate in which the diaphragm 2 of rubber and threads is enclosed in a dish-shaped porous rubber separator 4. |
