PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information acquisition apparatus which acquires characteristic information with high contrast and high SN, using a probe for tomography having a plurality of acoustic receivers.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition apparatus comprises: a plurality of receiving means arranged in an arc shape for receiving photoacoustic waves generated from a subject irradiated with light projected from a light source and converting the received acoustic waves into chronological electric signals; driving means for causing the receiving means to perform scanning; and processing means for using the chronological electric signals to acquire characteristic information of an interior of the subject. The light source emits light at a plurality of timings. The receiving means receives photoacoustic waves at a plurality of timings in synchronous with the emission of the light. The driving means causes the receiving means to perform scanning to allow the receiving means to receive the photoacoustic wave in a predetermined region in synchronization with the plurality of timings. The processing means acquires the characteristic information based on positional coordinates in the region and a signal resulting from summation of chronological electric signals corresponding to the plurality of timings.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
