1. A process of authenticating a battery, comprising:
(a) retrieving a first identity key in a battery powered device coupled to the battery; (b) generating a random challenge in the battery powered device; (c) retrieving a second identity key from a private memory of the battery; (d) combining the second identity key and the random challenge into a first response in the battery; (e) combining the first identity key and the random challenge into a second response in the battery powered device; (f) sending the first response from the battery to the battery powered device; (g) authenticating the battery by comparing the first response with the second response in the battery powered device; and (h) if the first response and second response results a match, authenticating the battery and enabling operation of the battery powered device. |
