The present invention relates to a mobile terminal and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal includes: a touch screen; a cover mounted in the mobile terminal and covering or opening a screen of the touch screen, wherein a part of or the whole of the cover is made of a transparent material; a detection unit detecting an input of breath of a user; and a control unit covered with the cover, activating a certain function when the input of the breath of the user is detected through the detection unit, and displaying an input area related to the function activated within the display area. The mobile terminal can use an additional second function by using the breath of the user without opening the transparent cover while a first function such as being on the line is being used with the transparent cover covered.
