PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately estimate a magnetic pole position over a wide rotation speed range from stop to high-speed rotation and to smoothly control a rotary electric machine with high stability and high responsiveness.SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine is controlled by switching at least two arithmetic modes of a first arithmetic mode mode1 and a second arithmetic mode mode2. Regarding a maximum rate X of change that is a maximum rate of change to be allowed when changing a rotation speed ω, a maximum rate X1 of change in the first arithmetic mode mode1 is small relatively to a maximum rate X2 of change in the second arithmetic mode mode2. When switching from the second arithmetic mode mode2 to the first arithmetic mode mode1, the rotary electric machine is controlled by shifting from the second arithmetic mode mode2 which is controlled by using the second maximum rate X2 of change through the second arithmetic mode mode2 which is controlled by using the maximum rate X of change equal to or smaller than the first maximum rate X1 of change to the first arithmetic mode mode1 which is controlled by using the first maximum rate X1 of change.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
