A door latch device that is installed in a vehicle door and that achieves at low cost a structure that is for ensuring the operational reliability of an open lever. This door latch device includes: a cylindrical cap that is configured from a resin material and that is inserted onto an installation shaft that extends in the form of a shaft in a prescribed direction from a pawl; an elastic spring member that elastically urges the pawl from a non-restricting position toward a restricting position; and a slip-off prevention mechanism that, by causing one part of the elastic spring member to engage the cap, keeps the cap from slipping off of the installation shaft.
