A power demand adjustment system has a plurality of consumers connected to a power system and a demand adjustment device connected to the plurality of consumers through a communication network. The plurality of consumers are grouped into a plurality of consumer groups such that the difference between the total power demand of the consumers belonging to a single group and a predicted value for the total power demand is minimized or kept at or below a threshold. The demand adjustment device adjusts the power demand of each consumer group so that the power demand of the consumer group approaches a supply plan value for the consumer group.
