A multimedia device and a method for controlling the same are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a multimedia device includes a receiving unit receiving a stream segment at a first bit rate among stream segments at various bit rates forming a first content, a display unit displaying video data corresponding to the received stream segment at the first bit rate, and a control unit. The control unit senses a change in the size of an image on which the video data is displayed, requests a stream segment at a second bit rate different from the first bit rate, based on the sensed change in the size of the image, controls the receiving unit to receive the requested stream segment at the second bit rate, and controls the display unit to display the video data corresponding to the received stream segment at the second bit rate. |
