PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide antioxidants that act by all three mechanisms by which free radicals and oxidants are generated, that is, exogenous generation via the environment, endogenous generation as a byproduct of normal metabolism, and generation in leukocytes as a weapon to kill pathogens.SOLUTION: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition comprising alpha-1-microglobulin and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, for treating or preventing diseases or conditions associated with oxidation stress by repairing or inhibiting oxidation damage by a combination of enzymatic reduction, non-enzymatic reduction and radical scavenging, with the proviso that the disease or condition is not pregnancy hypertensive nephropathy.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
