The invention relates to a device for machining a planar workpiece (100), said device having: - a machine stand with a supporting surface for a planar workpiece (100), the supporting surface being formed by at least one counter-retainer (1), on the front face (2) of which the workpiece (100) can be placed; - a retainer unit (3), by means of which the workpiece (100) is pressed against the supporting surface; and - a machining head for machining the workpiece (100), the head being movable in relation to the supporting surface. The device is characterised in that the at least one counter-retainer (1) has a vibration damper (4) which acts in a direction perpendicular to the supporting surface. The invention further relates to a corresponding method.
