PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dynamic optimization method for switching to a mode capable of reducing power consumption in navigation radios.SOLUTION: Selective switching between specific operating modes is performed based at least in part on a mode-switching test that takes into consideration one or more non-timed conditions to determine if mode-switching may be enabled. One of the plurality of test conditions allows reception and/or decoding of orbital data before the orbital data expires. Position location circuitry is switched from a first mode to a second mode; wireless signals associated with a satellite positioning system (SPS) are acquired in the first mode, and the wireless signals are less often acquired in the second mode than in the first mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
