[Class 39 (i)] A cover for an electric discharge vessel comprises a ceramic member 1 to which is moulded the glass body 5. The glass body may have a flat flange as shown in Fig. 2 or the edge may be turned up as indicated at 12 in Fig. 3. To make the cover, glass is either applied in liquid form or made liquid on the matrix 2 in which the base 1 of ceramic material has been fitted, the molten glass being moulded and forced into boxes or recesses e in the base by die 3. The die may be heated by coils 4 and the base by coils 7. In another form, a central gas jet is provided so that the base and the glass are joined in the middle first.
