<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exhibiting superior chipping and fracture resistance in high-speed heavy cutting. <P>SOLUTION: A hard coating layer comprises a lower layer and an upper layer formed through chemical vapor deposition, wherein (a) the lower layer is at least one Ti carbonitride layer and one or more Ti compound layers having a total average layer thickness of 3-20 μm, (b) the upper layer is an alumimum oxide layer having an average layer thickness of 1-25 μm, and the at least one Ti carbonitride layer constituting the lower layer has a columnar longitudinal growth TiCN crystal structure in which fine-grain TiCN is dispersed and distributed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
