[Class 64(iii)] Relates to heat exchangers more particularly for use as oil coolers on aircraft and of the kind described in Specification 623,561 comprising removable baffles 18, Fig. 2, arranged between selected rows of tubes 10 in a core, alternate baffles being sealed against a tube plate 12 at one end, the opposite end of each baffle being spaced from the other tube plate to provide for oil flow in a zig-zag path over the tubes, a shell 32,which surrounds the core and is secured to the tube plates being threaded over the core to engage with side extensions 22 of the baffles. According to the invention, the baffles are sealed against a header plate by a mass of pressed foil 26, Fig. 1, which extends along one edge of each baffle and is compacted and interlocked with adjacent tubes. Before insertion the foil 26, Fig. 5, is wound on a former 28 which is removed after insertion and prior to compacting with a rammer bar. Filling material 34 comprising rows of soft tubes held together by end caps of foil is applied to the core against the periphery and between the extensions 22 of the baffles.
